In 2013 photographer Darren Clark worked and lived alongside a droving team as they walked 3,000 cattle down the ‘Long Paddock’ from Ilfracombe to Longreach. For a week, he documented their lives, capturing the effects of long-term drought and the traditional droving methods that are under threat of being lost.

Melbourne may be back in lock-down, but you can still safely participate in Picturing Footscray while isolating.

We've listed some options on our website, including:
✅Look back into your photography archive. Have you taken a photograph in Footscray in the past 18 months that stimulates curiosity and conversation?
✅If you’re a Footscray local, challenge yourself to interpret isolation creatively from home.
✅Not a Footscray local? You might have something at home that reminds you of Footscray.

Read more here: www.vu.edu.au/picturing-footscray or email us at vuinthecommunity@vu.edu.au to talk through the options.

Entries close at 5pm on Friday 31 July.

Home exhibition is now open.

Introducing artist Humaira Fayazi @fayazihumi. Humaira is an emerging artist born in Kabul, Afghanistan. She arrived in Australia in 2018 as a refugee.

Art is an integral part of Humaira’s life and where she has found strength in times of sadness and weakness. Humaira’s passion for art stems from its ability to bring her peace in times of turmoil. Her style began as realist but she now works more with clay and installation art.

Humaira’s work in the HOME exhibition will highlight the feelings of women in war-torn countries and tells of the hardships and pains experienced.
